Wingham Wool

Last sunday my crafty friend and I headed over the pennines into yorkshire to visit Wingham Wool. We’ve been there before and to be honest it’s very much like a pilgramage for us! It was a beautiful day early this morning but by the time I reached my friends house it was throwing it down. Luckily for us over the hill it was a beautiful, if windy, day. Autumn is definately on its way and the colours on the moors and in the trees were beautiful.
We arrived in Wentworth in good time and headed straight for Wingham Wool. We have been caught out by our enthusiasm before now and arrived way before opening time but this time we actually checked the opening times on the internet! We headed right in and met with a lovely warm welcome. Wingham had been at a show down in Wales the day before so it was busy with people unloading stock but that didn’t stop them being really helpful and friendly. We headed straight into the amazing ‘Rainbow Shed’ where I immediately fell in love with the merino silk mixes. The colour blends were beautiful and it is lovely to spin with.
I then headed into the main shop to look at the other treasures available. The shop really is an alladins cave for any knitters, felters, dyers and spinners. There is a great selection of books and magazines on pretty much anything fibre related which is always worth a good look through. There are lovely wooden knitting needles, a great range of dyes, lasts for felting, needle felting supplies and all sorts of spinning accessories. It is heaven! I highly recommend a trip there and when you go the garden centre up the road does cake to die for!

Two things ticked off the list!

I’ve just read through my list again and felt quite disheartened until I realised……… I have actually ticked TWO things off the list this week!
I have sorted my car and get to pick up a lovely shiny new fiat 500 tomorrow. I. Am. So. Excited! I’m very giddy as my old car was a very battered 206, in fact when I took it to a dealer to be valued they said it reminded them of the old 206 advert where the elephant sits on the car! How rude! (but accurate!)
I also finished making the promised 3 skirts for my work friend today. I was very pleased with my handiwork and slightly jealous as her fabric was lovely!
Here’s a photo of the finished skirts and i’ll add one of the car tomorrow!

Summer 2011 Bucket and Spade List

It’s summer, I’m a teacher and that means six whole glorious weeks off! I don’t like to waste my six weeks, in fact I get holiday guilt if I feel I haven’t achieved enough during the summer holidays (not the point of a holiday I hear you say? I know I know I know!). So this year I have a plan……. that is I am going to make plans! I have called this plan my Summer 2011 Bucket and Spade List! As in bucket list but it’s just for summer not for life, following? I know it’s not easy!

In the true spirit of blogging I thought I would share my list with you, so here goes……

Make a plan for my blog
Set up an Etsy shop
Make more bags
Finish knitting yoga socks
Knit Alpine cardigan
Take some different photos in Castle Sween (Scotland, Argyll)
Move fridge and freezer
Start stripping paint off the front of the house
RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swim!
Go to Glasgow
Refashion clothes
Practise guitar
Sort car out
Make promised skirts for work collegue

I hope you like my slightly eclectic list full of the aspirational and the mundane! Notice that relax is at number 9, something has gone wrong there! I hereby retain the right to change my mind/plans/list whenever I like as long as I blog about said changes!

I have a plan. this plan involves being organised and actually blogging occasionally. I have got plans to revamp my blog and make it a bit more me and I was going to start this week. However……….i have yet again forgotton my password, doh! So I am limited to blogging from my phone. Yes I am useless,i clearly am ready for the summer holidays!
I’ll attempt to make up for it with a pretty picture!

How slack am I?

Any one would think i’d gone into hibernation……..but no I’ve just been busy busy busy! I’ve been managing to be crafty and have loads of new things to show you. I’ve also been gathering lots of inspiration by visiting other crafty types. So here goes……

Manchester craft centre-
I’ve not been to manchester craft centre in ages and after visiting last weekend I can’t think why not! It’s such a lovely friendly space and the studios are fabulous. I’m definately going to be making a trip there for christmas presents this year. My personal favourite was an artist who paints beautiful landscapes, I could have looked at them all day.

Holmfirth art markets – I heard about the art markets on twitter and seeing as holmfirth is local I thought i’d have a look. It was the most miserable day, pouring with rain and cold, but the atmosphere in the art market was warm and friendly. There were some absolutely beautiful things on sale by some very talented designers and makers. I’ll blog about some of the things I loved later in the week.

And now for the pictures! Here are the things I’ve been working on recently. Hope you like them…..

I need a holiday !

All these rainy days we’re having make me want to hibernate. My greatest wish at the moment is to spend the day snuggled up in bed with snow dog and my knitting. That’s pretty much what I did last weekend and I am so looking forward to half term so I can lounge around to my hearts content and maybe finish my yoga socks!

Onwards and upwards!

Well today I am feeling a little better so I took the opportunity to stitch a few things I cut out a few days ago. My e-reader has been looking a little shabby in the case I made for it a couple of years ago. probably because it goes everywhere with me! So I got some of my new pretty fabric, some wadding and made up a replacement, I hope you like it!

Not enough energy. I’ve had a very frustrating couple of days.I’m full of an evil nasty virus- sore throat, headache, dizzy, the works. this is making me very grumpy but what’s worse is that I have loads of ideas buzzing round in my head but not enough energy or brain power to do anything this makes me not much fun to be around but luckily the lovely rufus doesn’t much care!
